Ajmer is a small medieval town in the state of Rajasthan. It was founded by Raja Ajaypal Chauhan in the 7th century and is one of the most famous Muslim pilgrimage centers of India. There are many beautiful monuments of historical significance in Ajmer like Dargah-e- Sharif (tomb), Taragarh Fort, Adhai-Din-Ka-Jhonpra and Ana Sagar Lake. There are many Ajmer hotels in and around the town and its not surprising because of its religious importance in the country. The city is well planned with wide streets and is also a very important railway junction. The city has prospered with the tourism attraction and has helped modernize industries like wool textiles, hosiery, shoes, soap and pharmaceuticals.

Most of the hotels in Ajmer are built to function as mass residential houses meant for pilgrims looking for a place to stay. Space and cost is preferred over comfort as most pilgrims cannot afford to pay for costly hotel rooms. Apart for these cheap housing arrangements designed specially for pilgrims with government subsidiaries, there are still a large number of good Ajmer hotels with modern comforts. There are two star and three star hotels, budget hotels, heritage hotels and premium hotels. The room amenities are standard in all the heritage and premium hotels with large rooms, 24 hours facilities and services, AC and other comforts.
Some of the heritage hotels of Ajmer are Amar Bagh Junia, Tikam Niwas Mewar Estate, Bijayniwas Palace Resort and Roopangarh Fort. These are very different from premium hotels as they have all been converted from old forts and havelis into hotels. Ajmer hotels like Mansingh Palace and Hotel Regency fall under the premium category. Budget hotels in Ajmer are like Hotel Khadim, Hotel Ambassador, Hotel Embassy and Hotel Sahil do very well as it balances cost with comfort. Most pilgrims save up enough for a comfortable trip to Ajmer and a stay in the budget Ajmer hotels.
