The city of Bikaner was built in 1468 by Rao Bika, after whom the city was named. The Junagarh Fort is a Bikaner attraction that was built after much planning and hence the architecture of the fort is flawless. Raja Rai Singh built the fort and his experience made him create the fort with much effort. The valor of Singh earned him much respect from the Mughal Emperor Akbar and his successors. He even held high rank in courts of the Mughal rulers. Apart from the fort, Bikaner has many temples where pilgrims and devotees come from far and wide to offer prayers. The temples have been built many centuries ago by the rulers. Temples like Shiv Bari Temple, Karni Mata Temple, Kolayat, Laxmi Nath Temple have intricate and splendid designs carved on them by artisans. All the temples are devoted to Gods and Goddesses of the Hindu mythology.



Another famous Bikaner attraction is the Lalgarh Palace. Maharaja Ganga Singh built the palace to commemorate his father. The design of this palace was by a British architect, due to which many European influences are found in the architecture of the place apart from Mughal and Indian influences. The palace has a museum and a very big library. Some part of this magnificent palace is resided by the royal family and the rest has been turned into a luxury hotel. The camel festival in Bikaner is also an attraction for many tourist in Rajasthan.
