Chittaurgarh has a rich tryst with history. Many rulers have tried to capture the fort of Chittaurgarh. The Chittaurgarh Fort has been captured by Ala-ud-din Khilji and Akbar. Both of them had received strong resistance from the rulers of Chittaurgarh. The fort was built in the 7th century by the Maurya dynasty. The area taken by this magnificent citadel is 700 acres. It is believed that during the capture by the invaders, the women of Chittaurgarh assembled and made a huge fire and committed jauhar.
