The most famous Jodhpur attractions are the Umaid Bhawan, Jaswant Thada and the Mehrangarh Fort. All these are huge structures that leave you in complete awe. The Umaid Bhawan Palace is one of its kind palaces. The structure is very imposing. The palace has been constructed by sandstone and marble. The Umaid Bhawan Palace has intricate carvings throughout. The palace was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh and hence has been named after him. The palace has landscaped gardens, many rooms with balconies and the view from the palace is extremely beautiful. One portion of the Umaid Bhawan Palace has been turned into a heritage hotel that is very luxurious. The rooms of the hotel have many modern amenities. The palace took as many as 15 years to be built.
The Mehrangarh Fort has numerous palaces, temples within its premises. It was built in 1495 by Rao Jodhpur who was also the founder of the city. The gates of the Mehrangarh Fort is very imposing. It was done so to protect the city from foreign attacks. The museum in the Mehrangarh Fort has displayed many artifacts belonging to the rulers. There are weapons, furniture, musical instruments along with many other things on display at the museum. The Jaswant Thada is a memorial built to commemorate Maharaja Jaswant Singh II.
